Pumpkin Patch Roll-Ups

Today  the Bento Bloggers and Friends are having a Halloween Blog Hop!

Are you new to our blog hops?  It just means that  sometimes we like to link our bento blogs together, based on a common theme, and all you have to do is click the button at the end of this post to be taken to the next blog featuring a fun Halloween lunch, and then go on to the next one, and the next, until you will eventually end up back here. It’s a great way to see a whole bunch of fun Halloween food to give you ideas for lunches or parties – and since so many of us are involved with Halloween activities for kids this week, we thought we’d try to help out. Yeah, we’re cool like that.

My contribution is what I have dubbed Pumpkin Patch Roll-Ups. They are deceptively simple. I made them kind of like sushi, but in sandwich form. Here’s how you can make them:

1. Heat a purple corn tortilla in the microwave until it is soft and pliable.
2. Spread it with softened cream cheese.

3. Lay down a single layer of spinach leaves.

4. Place a cooked turkey sausage ( or hot dog) near the edge of the tortilla, and roll tightly.

5. Slice the rolls into logs and stand them on end in a bento box, or a party tray :)

6. Top each with round slice of cheese ( I used a mini cookie cutter), and add a slice of spinach stem to make the pumpkin stem.

7. Use some punches to punch out the pumpkin’s faces from sheets of nori . Here are the ones I used:

Also in this lunch are sugar snap peas, honeydew melon balls, strawberries, cheese cubes, and a boiled egg shaped like a skull. I was super excited to get this skull egg mold, and it arrived in the mail just yesterday!  The facial features didn’t come out very clear on my first attempt, so I used nori to give it some character. But I made a second one that turned out better – you can see it in the middle photo :

I ordered it from AllThingsForSale.com. If you’re interested in buying , or just curious to read more about it ( or the nori punches I used), click on the the photo links below:
